Syllabus

A Teoria Geral do Direito Civil visa fornecer aos Estudantes conhecimentos sobre os princípios fundamentais do direito civil, bem como as noções, os institutos e o quadro essencial dos problemas tratados na Parte Geral do Código Civil português, relativamente à relação jurídica, em especial os sujeitos da relação jurídica. Procurar-se-á que os alunos se familiarizem com a linguagem própria do direito civil e com o raciocínio técnico-jurídico, ao mesmo tempo que se visa incutir neles o sentido prático do direito, pela compreensão das soluções legais e sua aplicação pela jurisprudência.

Objectives

It is intended to provide a thorough knowledge of the principles, institutions and structuring norms of Portuguese Civil Law, as well as the vicissitudes regarding the subjects of the legal relationship. In the end, students should not only be capable to solve the specific situations of the General Theory of Civil Law course, but it's also expected them to acquire and retain a solid education on Private Law that will serve as the basis for their whole academic and professional career.

Teaching methodologies and assessment

The classes are based on a theoretical and practical exposure model of program content, which is then complemented with the resolution of specific cases (case studies). This methodology of confrontation between theory and its practical application helps to stimulate the interest of students and their capacity for critical analysis.
