Objectives

Create in students the ability to develop Decision Support Systems (SSD) and apply analysis and inference algorithms to large data sets, particularly in the design, development and maintenance of Data Warehouse Systems. Develop students' sensitivity to the problems of classification rule inference and the applicability of various inference paradigms. Familiarize students with academic and business tools that use learning techniques, data analysis problems and know how to apply them to concrete problems.

Design, develop and maintain Data Warehouse Systems and Analytical Reporting Systems.

Identification of the need for data mining solutions, and ability to select the appropriate algorithms for this purpose.

Teaching methodologies and assessment

Students should develop a Group Project (maximum 2 students) throughout the semester: develop a Decision Support System for a National ERP Database or other Database.
The Project will be organized in 2 Modules (phases) that will be presented in class, in 2 different moments. These presentations, as well as the written report, will focus on the assessment of this course. There will also be a written test and a Case Study to be presented in class.
Each evaluation component will have the following weights:
First assignment and presentation: 30%
Second paper submission and presentation: 30%
Frequency: 30%
Case Study: 10%
