Syllabus
1. Image, notions and principles: referencial dimension of the image; technology, material dimension of the image; esthetics, sensorial and psychic dimension of the image; politics, historical dimension of the image. 2. Image Theories: Walter Benjamin, Jacques Rancière, Jeans Baudrillard, Barthes, Deleuze. 3. Film Theories: formalism, montage theory, realism, auteur theory and genre theory. 4. Representation: morphological, dynamic and dimension elements. 5. Film language: narrative elements, image typologies, sound functions, editing features.
Objectives
At the end of the semester, students should be able to: -Identify and articulate diferent theoretical approaches towards the image -Understand diferent film theories and their historical contexts -Understand and analyse essencial concepts regarding the static image and the moving image.
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The course contents will be transmited both through an expository methodology and active learning methods such as reading and discussion of texts, analysis of static images, and screening and comentary of moving images excerpts. Assessment comprehends the following items: -Interpretation Exercize - 30% -written paper - 60% -assiduity and participation- 10%
