It is intended to give students an overview of the cultural system in Portugal, with a special focus on the performing arts sector. It is also intended that students are able to understand the economic aspects of the arts, namely with regard to financing issues. It is also intended, in this last aspect, to be able to prepare applications for official and private entities and to be able to prepare project budgets.

1. The arts system in Portugal

2. The performing arts system

3. The role of the State - National policies and financing programs

4. The role of local authorities

5. European policies and funding programs

6. The role of private individuals. Main financial support

7. How to prepare a project production budget

8. How to submit financial support applications: preparation of dossiers.

Objectives

 

Be able to prepare budgets and submit applications for funding. Be able to understand the political and economic system of the arts in the national and european context.

Teaching methodologies and assessment

Preparation of applications and budgets. Practical exercises.

Evaluation

Interim work 30%

Final work 70%
