Critical reflection on the city and territory, by theoretical framework for a set of processes of urban and territorial planning, in correspondence to their various physical, technological and socio-political contexts, interests and dynamics of settlement, growth, development, densification, modification and regeneration, among other aspects that matter to the understanding of territorial structures and systems currently in place.

Syllabus

1- The modern town planning

   -  formation contexts, strategic dimensions, tradition and praxis of city planning;

  - The social, political, economic and technical aspects of modern town planning / the lessons of cities;

  - The representation of social and economic factors in the processes of formation, growth and consolidation of urban form;

  - The modern tradition, and critical perspectives to the Athens Charter (to another "modern tradition").

2 - Urban Morphology

  - Evolution, revolution and reform of urban form and structure. Factors of coherence and contingency of the models with urban historical  matrix, informal, formal, and resultant of technological processes of production and urbanization;

  - Factors of nucleation, densification, diffusion, functional segregation, polarization and axis forms, as a result of specific processes.

Objectives

It is intended to learn and train narratives with depth disciplinary corps and clear knowledge concerning city and territory prospective understanding at different levels of complexity and interaction of factors, for knowledge of the nature and characteristics of their intrinsic patterns, as well as for focusing the modifying latent or potential factors that must be considered for analytical exercises, by the instrumental and management practices, and by project exercises at various approach scales.

The consolidation of disciplinary knowledge oriented for the intervention, matters for the understanding of the city and territory, as well for the observation of the critical factors of contingency and innovation inherent in the practice of architecture and urban planning, by identifying incidences of endogenous and exogenous to the places and facts intervened, corresponding programs and processes, validation conditions, form and content of technical procedures to develop.

Teaching methodologies and assessment

Evaluation without final exam, based on individual assignments; continuous evaluation, implying the systematic presence of the students in all the classes and it is considered as a limit to obtain attendance at least 75% of the classes given.The discipline will be exercised by lectures and practical classes. The class participation and frequency matters for classification. The classification is based on a Notebook composed of pieces written and graphic for prospective interpretation of the project areas or other territory to study, assay the central subjects of the program of the discipline, that must be identified and proposed by the student.
