1. Introduction to the economics of culture. 1.1. Basic concepts of culture economics. 1.2. Delimitations of the cultural and creative sector. 2. Economic characterization of the cultural and creative sector. 2.1. Organization and evolution of the cultural and creative sector, with special focus on the arts. 2.2. Structure and trends of the labor market. 2.3. Products and services of the sector. 3. Cultural market. 3.1. Characterization of the cultural market and the arts. 3.2. Trends and evolution of the market and consumption. 4. Political and institutional framework, national and European, of the arts sector. 4.1. Broad guidelines of public policies. 4.2. Instruments of public policy. 4.3. Financing cultural and artistic projects. Patronage and cultural patronage. 5. Project engineering. 5.1. Concept of Project. 5.2. Context analysis. SWOT Methodology. 5.3. Tree-building methodology of objectives. 5.4. Programming, budgeting and financing of cultural projects.
Objectives
Address some basic concepts of economics and relate them to the fields of Culture and the Arts. Provide a general framework on the structure and dynamics, institutional and market, of the cultural sector, with particular focus on the arts sector. Provide an understanding of the national and European institutional framework in the cultural and arts sector. Empower to identify, understand and work with public policy frameworks for the arts, including in the field of funding. Empower to understand and interact with cultural agents and other agents in the application and execution of cultural and artistic projects. Give basic skills to structure a project in the area of the performing arts.
Teaching methodologies and assessment
Presentation classes and critical discussion of technical and political information documents. The use of active learning methods and student participation based in particular on debates based on analyzes developed by students on subjects related to arts policy and economics at national and European level. Application of methodologies and development of a final project work in the field of scenic arts.
