General Chemistry
Presentation
The course intend to provide the student with a global view on the constitution and organization of the matter, as well as its transformations, including chemical stability and reactivity. So it is intended that the student understands the importance of Chemistry in the evolution of phenomena in the various scientific and technological areas, as well as to promote the deepening of a scientific and technical c culture that will provide a cognitive and methodological support for both the continuation of studies as for the insertion in the active life.

Objectives
At the end of the course unit the student should know: ¿ Understand the structure of the matter, the periodic properties of the elements and the chemical bonds. ¿ Master the basic nomenclature of organic and inorganic compounds. ¿ Know to perform calculations related to concentrations of solutions and gaseous state. ¿ Perform stoichiometric calculations. ¿ Predict and understand the energy involved in a process. ¿ Work with the kinetic law corresponding to a given chemical reaction. ¿ Characterize chemical equilibria, namely acid-base balance, solubility equilibrium and equilibrium in oxidation-reduction and electrochemical processes. ¿ Understand nuclear radioactivity, nuclear fission and fusion.
Teaching methodologies and assessment
Both types of sessions, both theoretical and practical, are twofold: expository and application. Theoretical sessions consist of the exposition of knowledge, always using the presentation of real cases, discussions in a global group and examples of problem solving related to the practice of the profession. The practical sessions consist, both in teaching and in the practice of problem solving, as in the proposal of challenges, concentrated in the area of action of the Licenciantura. The assessment (continuous) consists of three tests, written and / or using computer means, also quoted. These tests will aim to assess both the ability to acquire theoretical concepts and the acquired skills to solve exercises and particular problems in the professional area.
