The course aims to consolidate and link the knowledge acquired in the previous disciplines of the same sub-area of studies. It is intended that students become able to conceptualize, implement and carry out a study carried out by collecting information by sampling, applied to the reality of Political Science.

Concomitantly, it is an objective for students to be able to interpret in detail the results of any political survey or opinion or market studies carried out by others and also to acquire the ability to dialogue with companies in the specialty.

Syllabus

1. Preparation of questionnaires. Structure. Closed vs. open answer questions. Most common mistakes.

2. Polls and opinion studies. Goal. Universe and sample. Methodology.

3. Ballot Box. Preparation. Selection. Most common deviations. Collection of votes.
4. Conducting fieldwork
Definition of the objective and the target population. Design of an appropriate sampling method. Collection and Descriptive Analysis of data. Statistical inference. Preparation of a report.

Objectives

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:

- Plan an opinion / survey study field capable of meeting a predefined objective

- Carry out this work, leading if necessary the necessary means

- Treat descriptively and inferentially the data obtained

- Interpret the results of someone else's surveys with the appropriate significance

- Interact with specialtized companies.

Teaching methodologies and assessment

In addition to the discussion of the particularities of data collection techniques in surveys and opinion studies, the discipline will be essentially of practical application and interconnection of procedures and methodologies in the context of real work.

The Assessment includes the assessment of the ability to carry out field work and the application of techniques Students must carry out, in time, within a set period of time, in the context of class, a complete real statistical analysis work, including its design, development and conclusions and drawing up a final report.

Weightings of the various elements:
Conception of the work (definition of objective and target population, justification of your interest, selection of an appropriate sampling method) and Data collection and descriptive analysis - 50%
Interpretation of results, establishment of conclusions and preparation of the final report - 50%
