1. Period of Peninsular Law:

     1.1. Primitive Period;

     1.2. Roman period;

     1.3. Germanic-Visigothic Period;

     1.4. Muslim and Christian Reconquest Period;

2. Period of Ordinary and Foral Law (1143-1245):

     2.1. Sources of law;

3. Period of the Influence of Roman and Canon Law (1245-1769):

     3.1. Before and after the Aphonsine Ordinations (1446/7);

     3.2. Sources of Law before and after the Afonsine Ordinances;

     3.3. Renaissance of Roman Law: a) School of the Glosadores; b) School of Commentators;

4. Period of Rationalist Jusnaturalism:

     4.1. Influence of French rationalism in Portugal;

     4.2. Pombal law reforms: a) Good Reason Law: b) Statutes of the University of Coimbra;

5. Period of Political Liberalism:

     5.1. Enlightenment, Liberalism and Law;

     5.2. The Revolution of August 24, 1820;

     5.3. The Portuguese Constitutions;

     5.4. The movement of codification;

6. Period of Social Law.

 

Objectives

- LEARN THE IMPORTANCE OF THE HISTORICAL STUDY OF PORTUGUESE LAW, UNDERSTANDING THE FORMATION OF THIS LAW THROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF THE LEGAL SOURCES, UNDERSTANDING THE HISTORICAL TIMES OF PORTUGUESE LAW IN ORDER TO KNOW THEIR EVOLUTION.

Teaching methodologies and assessment

- THEORETICAL CLASSES WITH EXPOSURE OF THE MATERIALS AND ENCOURAGING THE PARTICIPATION OF STUDENTS IN DISCUSSING THE CLASSES OF EACH CLASS;

- THE AVALIATION WILL BE CONTINUOUS, WITHOUT A FINAL EXAM, COMPOSED OF TWO WRITTEN TESTS, WITH A MINIMUM NOTE OF 10 VALUES. IF IN EACH OF THE TESTS THE STUDENT HAS A CLASSIFICATION OF 8 (EIGHT), WILL PASS FOR THE FINAL EXAM;

- FINAL AVALIATION (TWO EXAMS SEASONS): WITH A NOTE OF 8 (EIGHT) OR 9 (NINE) THE STUDENT WILL MAKE AN ORAL EXAM; WILL BE APPROVED WITH A MINIMUM NOTE OF 10 (TEN).
