Syllabus

1. Equilibrium of the rigid body.

 

2. Calculation of support reactions.

 

3. Study of trusses.

 

4. Diagrams of efforts.

 

5. Geometry of masses and properties of the cross-sections.

Objectives

It is intended that students develop the ability to analyse problems involving the equilibrium of rigid bodies (under different types of actions). Students are expected to acquire the capability to analyse simple isostatic systems: determine reactions, understand internal efforts and calculate the correspondent diagrams. In this context, special attention is paid to the analysis of trusses. The first concepts related to geometry of masses and cross-section properties are introduced, which will prove to be fundamental throughout the Cycle of Studies.

Teaching methodologies and assessment

TEACHING METHODOLOGY: The teaching-learning methods will be based on the work done in class, study and bibliographic research by the student. During the classes, the teacher will make the presentation and discussion of the syllabus, applying the acquired knowledge to concrete situations and examples of practical cases. Students will have the opportunity to apply the themes under analysis by solving proposed problems.

With remote teaching, adopted in some of the classes: i) transmitting some more theoretical concepts and knowledge; ii) strengthening the students' autonomy, who are challenged to work on a set of practical works.

 

EVALUATION: Continuous evaluation - two tests and two practical works will be performed. The weighting of the evaluation elements will be: first test (40%), second test (40%), practical works (20%). Exam - written test (100%).
