Entrance Conditions
The following may apply for the Doctoral Programme in Communication for Development:
a) The holders of a master's degree or a legal equivalent;
b) The holders of a B.A. who present an especially relevant academic or scientific which is acknowledge by the Scientific Council of the Lusophone University of Porto as being a competence certificate.
b) The holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum which is acknowledged by the Scientific Council of the Lusophone University of Porto.

Objectives
Journalism founded on traditional structures and in industrial vision of media is in crisis and coexists with alternative media. Studies on ComunicaçãoJornalismo for development cross interdisciplinary areas and cover areas such as journalism, social causes, environment and sustainability, human rights, where the investigation is essential. It is intended to:
-Develop the capacity to produce new knowledge and new applications and impressive features of translation in value and social and economic growth;
-Form of researchers and communicators, capable of performing projects;
-Search for new approaches to development communication and journalism through the study of development funding and intervention models;
-Instigate the meeting with different stakeholders, from journalists to activists and social animators, researchers project managers in communication, in the social economy and the third sector.
Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired
Combine the notion of Communication to the development of journalism development guided by values of autonomy, citizenship, cultural and social development and participation in democratic processes
contemporaries;
Acquire knowledge and comprehension skills and critical assessment of the consequences of the use of new technologies;
Propose solutions to quality journalism, with projects with societal value;
Develop the competence of conversion of knowledge into practical applicability: acquire theoretical and conceptual frameworks and encourage questioning of issues in close articulation with the practical application of research projects and social intervention;
Encourage the acquisition of skills to undertake projects in connection with different realities;
Encourage scientific excellence, autonomy, efficiency and the formation of the investigator as a producer and Director of projects related to fields of action.
