Objectives
To frame epistemologically and methodologically the research of the student in function of the problems and the objectives of each project. Promote a debate on a multidisciplinary knowledge of thematic and methodologies that can guide and / or complement each one of the individual investigations. Through the presentation and discussion of selected critical texts, to raise problems that reflect the current agenciamentos that cross the fields of the arts and the media, with particular incidence in the questioning of a historical fracture between the traditional artistic creation and the creation from the new media, and the way in which technique reconfigures experience. Reflect on the condition of contemporaneity in relation to scientific and artistic production.
Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired
Identify and define theoretical, methodological, technical and aesthetic tools that can be called for the design and execution of a research project. Know how to articulate a personal position with a historical, theoretical and critical conceptualization. Identify the specificity and the conditions of an academic PhD project - monographic or artistic, with theoretical aspects and practical aspects - and reflect such specificity and conditions in relation to other modes of thought or creative practices. Promote media literacy, taking into account its cultural, social and political impact. Align different areas of knowledge, combine technical instruments and reconcile aesthetic standards, so as to be able to carry out creative and innovative projects in real contexts and in diverse sectors (arts and culture, education and training, communication market and entertainment industries).
Teaching methodologies and assessment
After the first session of the program is presented, the students are asked to prepare a document corresponding to a methodological phase of preparation of their project for each session. In this sense, in the second session the document "Research Question" is discussed, in the third the document "Pre-proposal", in the fourth the document "Conceptual map" and in the fifth the document "Proposal of Scheduling". Students are also asked to share with everyone the document before each lesson, so that everyone can read the papers and participate in the debate. With the exception of the first, each session is divided into two parts. In the first part, students' work is discussed; The second part discusses a critical text that reflects problems related to the thought and investigation of art and the media. The evaluation is based on the set of documents (70%) and participation in the class (30%), when discussing the work.
