Objectives
- To know, characterize and contextualize new approaches to 21st century materiality, and the function of its historical and conceptual context. - Develop the relation of new concepts of materiality and media, on the limits of nature and the human, with contemporary art and visual culture. - To problematize the technological condition of contemporaneity, identifying the transformations and contemporary thinking about materiality. - Reflect on the redefinition of the perception of objects, digital media, ecological and non-human questions in current thinking, and their impact on the media and the visual arts.
Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired
Students are expected to develop a critical understanding of new trends and contemporary thinking about the materiality, materialism, ecology, and sociology of objects today, and their intrinsic relationship with art, media, and contemporary culture through reading and discussion of texts, works of art, and other cases of study. The development of historical and theoretical contexts and of analytical skills aims to increase knowledge about contemporary thinking and to develop knowledge and a critical dimension on emerging cultural phenomena today and their impact on the arts and the media.
Teaching methodologies and assessment
Exposition and discussion of the programmed topics, from chosen texts and case studies that illustrate the topics under discussion. Exhibition and discussion of works of art, cinema, and visual culture, such as everyday objects. The evaluation will be based on the following elements: 20% - Participation 35% - Written work of a text or an artistic work, in articulation with one or more points of the subject matter; presentation of the work in the classroom. 45% - Frequency, on a date to be confirmed A student who obtains a grade equal to or greater than 10 (ten) values is approved, with the exception of cases where the frequency grade is less than 8.5 (eight point five) values .
