Syllabus
Guidance for the preparation of a thesis, in the field of the project, conducive to obtaining a PhD in Architecture from the Lusófona University of Porto. The research work should be elaborated within the disciplinary area of the architecture and have a place in an era of accelerated specialization and deepening of the knowledge in diverse professional fields and scientific areas. The development of the research work should be elaborated by putting new theories or presenting and analyzing new facts or, again, interrelating, in a new way, established facts and theories contributing to the advancement of knowledge. The development of the research work should be elaborated with an original, current, relevant and coherent problem in relation to the expected results.
Objectives
Elaboration of a thesis, in the field of the project, conducive to obtaining a PhD in Architecture from the Lusófona University of Porto. This thesis should fulfill the requirements of originality, discipline and pertinence of the topics investigated in that domain.
Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired
This course aims to develop the students' ability to present a thesis and by purpose to guide the development of the skills to: - Obtain the necessary information and transform it, with simplicity and pertinence. -conceiving an idea, intention of analysis or conception. -to communicate the validity of the analyzes or proposals elaborated; -defining the analytical dimensions of the Thesis; -defining qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the subject to be investigated; -generate, research and organize relevant information-define the analysis problem; -to identify scientifically relevant theoretical, artistic, projective and technical aspects; -relate knowledge about theories, conceptual conceptions, methods and techniques and their scientific scope;
Teaching methodologies and assessment
Orientation during the elaboration of the thesis and according to the topics chosen as themes of development. Evaluation defined in light of the progress made in the preparation of the thesis, with a view to its adequate conclusion, provided by the advisor. Final evaluation will be done by an independent and appropriate jury that is disciplinarily relevant.
