Syllabus

Orientation in view of the beginning of work to elaborate a thesis, in the field of the project, conducive to obtaining a PhD in Architecture from the Universidade Lusófona do Porto. The research work should be elaborated within the disciplinary area of the architecture and have a place in an era of accelerated specialization and deepening of the knowledge in diverse professional fields and scientific areas. The beginning of the development of the research works should be elaborated by putting new theories or presenting and analyzing new facts or, again, interrelating, in a new way, established facts and theories contributing to the advancement of knowledge.

Objectives

Continuation of the introductory works for the elaboration of a thesis, in the field of the project, conducive to obtaining the degree of Doctor of Architecture from the Lusófona University of Porto. This thesis should fulfill the requirements of originality, discipline and pertinence of the topics investigated in that domain.

Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired

The skills to be acquired are within the scope of scientific research and the specificity of the architecture and urban planning project, namely in the introduction to the notions of: scientific research and disciplinary specificity; interpretation of texts and reading sheets, themes and research capacity; formulating objectives and raising issues; identification of the methodology and types of research; theoretical framework and fieldwork; treatment, systematization of information; results analysis.

Teaching methodologies and assessment

Continuation of the orientation during the elaboration of the thesis and according to the topics chosen as themes of development. Evaluation defined in light of the progress achieved in the first phase of the preparation of the thesis, in view of its adequate general structure and main support bibliography.
