Syllabus

The lectures and debates on the different positions and intellectual contributions of each work, idea or author enable the production of an enlarged framework of references through which the student can structure a differentiating approach. The class presentations and essays force an awareness of the difficulties of bringing together forms and ideas. This awareness is essential to educate functional and autonomous intellectuals.

Objectives

The main purpose of this course is to make the student conversant with the conceptual and discursive universe of the discipline, through a broad and introductory exposure to foundational modes of spatial organization. Unfolding through an analysis of works, authors and ideas, this course will be an entrance door into the disciplinary universe of architecture

Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired

The student must acquire the ability to, within an architectural theme, identify an issue, to sketch a strategy and select a point of view to deepen the corresponding debate, collect documentation and information regarding the subject which will allow to understand it, developing and grounding coherently its enunciation.

Teaching methodologies and assessment

The course unfolds through lectures, in which the teacher presents, contextualizes and problematizes the debated issues, followed by collectively lead seminars in which the students critically address an issue. This course should produce a final essay, properly articulated and argued, and according to the best standards of academic originality and responsibility.
